MEET THE DESIGNERS
Niels Jørgen Haugesen
Niels Jørgen Haugesen (1936-2013) was one of the great names in Danish design. Haugesen trained as a cabinetmaker in 1956 and graduated as a furniture architect from the School of Arts and Crafts in 1961.
“I want my furniture to have a clear identity that hopefully appeals to people’s senses” – Niels Jørgen Haugesen
Niels Jørgen Haugesen was one of Denmark’s leading representatives of the high-tech movement in the 1980s. His designs combined thoughtful functionality with a deep understanding of the properties of materials.
Haugesen became known for his strict and industrial style, which despite its simplicity appears highly sophisticated, characterized by detailed and well-executed constructions.
He was recognized as one of the most talented furniture architects of his generation, largely due to his persistence and ability to work on a task until it was completed to perfection. He developed this approach especially during his five years at Arne Jacobsen’s studio, where he acquired extensive knowledge of furniture design, interior design and architecture before founding his own studio.
The collaboration with Snedkergaarden began in Niels Jørgen Haugesens later years – in 2007.
